Why Character Education in Schools?

Character GPS seeks to develop an internal compass guided by universal, unchanging principles that allows students to consider the natural consequences of negative or positive behaviors.

Do You Provide Enough Character Education?

Your school tries to reward good character, and you may hold occasional character education classes, but you know it’s not enough.  Attitude and behavioral problems are escalating, and loss of control is a looming risk.  You’re evaluated on covering the academic curriculum, but that doesn’t give you enough time to make a difference in building good character.

Solutions for Character Training

There is a solution that’s worked for many schools.  Character GPS is a non-profit organization that brings best practice character training to schools in an impactful format that improves student attitudes and behavior.

Character GPS Speakers can help to change the culture of your school by gaining rapport through symbols of popular culture and then engaging hearts and minds to consider the character values that produce life success.

Character GPS Workshops are delivered through diverse, media-rich, hands-on activities as part of a curriculum based in Bloom’s Taxonomy of learning objectives.  The workshops not only show kids why character values are so important; they involve kids with interactive, real-life exercises to make sure they master the integration of life changing skills into daily life.

The Development of Character GPS for Schools

When Matthew Hoffman and Jeff Cain were developing Character GPS, they identified 10 key areas that held students back from succeeding in school and throughout their lives.  This was determined through research combined with administrator and teacher interviews about what hindered student learning.  The 10 key problem areas identified included bullying, cheating, stealing, fights/violence, apathy to learning, disrespect of authority, disrespect of each other, addictions, lying, and low self-respect.

Rather than focusing on motivating student compliance with rules and imposed consequences from authority, Character GPS seeks to develop an internal compass guided by universal, unchanging principles that allows students to consider the natural consequences of negative or positive behaviors.

Character GPS is designed to allow students to change from the inside out.  In other words, we work on changing hearts for effective, long term success in life.
